From the desk of Mark Stone

2011, the 50th year of the International Tax Institute, Inc., was an exciting year for the organization, its members and for all of you who attend our programs.  A few highlights are worth mentioning.

Board of Directors  - Two nationally known and well respected international tax lawyers joined our board in early 2011, Kim Blanchard, a partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and David Miller, a partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP.  Additionally, I am pleased to announce that at the annual board of directors meeting held on December 8th, Erika Nijenhuis, a partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, Hans de Groot, Senior Vice President at Viacom, Inc., and Charles Cope, a partner at KPMG LLP were elected to the board.  These three distinguished tax lawyers bring added strength to our organization and will provide further valuable input from top tier law, accounting and corporate firm points of view.

Programs - 11 new and exciting programs were presented at the great Grand Hyatt hotel luncheon setting.  The topics included PFICs, FIRPTA, Section 960(c), FATCA, blockers, cross border hybrid instruments and more.  The powerpoints for each program are available on our website for all members, whether or not they were able to attend the program.  We are in the process of planning 11 exciting programs for 2012, as well.

West LegalEdcenter - I am pleased to report that starting with our May 2011 program, we have partnered with West LegalEdcenter to carry the audio tape of our programs for delivery through their world wide on call service.  This has expanded the reach of our programs beyond the New York area, but is no substitute for the actual presence at the program with the ability to ask your own questions to our distinguished speakers and enjoy a great lunch and networking opportunity.

I will provide further comments, as events unfold, in this portion of our website so please take a look from time to time.
